Cumbrian Heavy Horses is based at Baystone Bank Farm and run by the same family behind the campsite. These award-winning riding experiences with rare breeds like Shires, Clydesdales, and Suffolk Punches are a huge part of what makes the farm so special.

Many of our campers come specifically to ride – and we don’t blame them! From peaceful farm hacks to thrilling beach rides, you’ll find options for all levels of rider. Whether you’re here for the horses or just want to meet them up close, there’s something for everyone.

How to book

All bookings must be made directly with Cumbrian Heavy Horses.
Call 07769 588565 between 10am and 1pm, Monday to Friday.
Leave a clear message if you don’t get through – Heather or Annie will get back to you.

Before calling, have the following ready:

  • Experience level
  • Height and weight (important for horse and rider safety)
  • Preferred experience (farm, fell, beach, hands-on, or meet-the-horses)
  • Number of riders and any flexibility with dates

Please note: The campsite team cannot take bookings or pass on messages for rides.

What kinds of rides are there?

  • Farm Rides (1 or 2 hours)

    Gentle rides across our private farmland with incredible views. Suitable for all abilities.

  • Fell Rides (Approx. 3 hours)

    Explore the local hills and fells. Suitable for confident riders.

  • Beach Rides (Approx. 3–4 hours)

    For experienced riders only. Gallop across the open sands of the west coast.

  • Private Beach Rides

    A slower-paced version for nervous or novice riders, available on weekdays.

  • Hands-On Experience Days

    A full day with the horses: riding, grooming, leading, and learning.

  • Meet the Horses Sessions

    Perfect for non-riders who want to spend time with these gentle giants.

  • Prices vary depending on the ride type and length

    From £80pp (farm ride) to £400pp (private beach experience). Gift vouchers are also available.
